Maintenance, function and introduction of O-ring seals

For the compression amount of the O-ring, one is that it is only compressed radially in the non-working state, and its compression is 8% to 13%, and the other is that it is compressed both radially and axially in the non-working state, and its compression 4% to 5%. For sealing rings of other materials, the optimum compression should be obtained by testing. Of course, it is related to the hardness of the sealing ring. The higher the hardness, the smaller the compression. Therefore, the O-ring sealing ring is mainly designed with the customer to find a more reasonable hardness.
O-rings have coefficients of friction ranging from just under 0.25 to over 0.75. The coefficient of friction can be reduced by surface treatment or by adding molybdenum disulfide to the O-ring. If molybdenum disulfide is used, this characteristic becomes a long-term constant characteristic of the O-ring, and the effect of the surface treatment diminishes over time.
O-ring is a kind of sealing element with a circular cross-section. It is widely used in a variety of mechanical equipment. It plays a sealing role in a certain temperature, pressure and different liquid or gas media. The O-ring is similar to other sealing rings. It has the following five advantages: simple structure of O-ring sealing part, compact installation part and light weight. It has a self-sealing effect, and the sealing effect can be achieved with one seal. Good sealing performance, almost no leakage when used as a fixed seal, and some leakage only at high speeds when used as a moving seal. The frictional resistance of the O-ring movement is very small, and it can also adapt to the occasion of alternating pressure. O-ring dimensions and grooves are standardized, low cost, and easy to use and outsource.
Compared with other sealing rings, O-rings also have the following three problems that need to be paid attention to: the frictional resistance when starting is large. When used as a seal for pneumatic devices, lubricating oil must be added to prevent wear. The processing size and precision of coupling accessories, such as moving surfaces, grooves, and gaps, are very strict.
When installing the O-ring into the groove, be careful not to twist it. When installing, you can consider coating the groove and the O-ring with sealing medium. Try not to open the original packaging of the O-ring when it is not in use. Dust attached to the O-ring or mixed with foreign objects may cause damage, and it should be avoided as far as possible from direct sunlight or placed near a high temperature heat source such as a boiler to prevent the O-ring from aging. and lip damage. Special attention should be paid to the occasional discoloration during storage, that is, white powder on the surface of the O-ring, which will not adversely affect the function.
